Their first task was to launch the chain’s new brand proposition “Morrisons Makes it” across all media, with the intention of showing that they are more than just a food supplier and in turn compel shoppers to return to Morrisons.
As part of this project we were asked to help make some chirpy little films that would live happily on social media. Now they’re not our usual thing (ie animated) but they are a bit of fun, and we love fun. As such we instantly agreed to embark on making six quirky spots that involved hand puppets!
As ever we managed to do most of the work in house but did seek the specialist help of some seasoned puppeteers who came to Margate via the magical world of children’s TV. All of the films needed to have a handmade / personal feel and would feature products available to buy in store. The project saw our amazing model making department glue glasses and wigs to hands and our art department dressing dinosaurs and donuts into the same set. Not often that happens.
Hopefully our final films, and the rest of the campaign, will help the viewer to see the retailer as a more fun and personal entity rather than the cold and impersonal behemoth supermarkets are so often cast as. Certainly nobody could argue that a hand dressed as Tarzan shouting about hot cross buns wasn’t fun, so hopefully we’re off to a good start.
A+C Creative Director David Clark commented:
“Having spent many a summer holiday in Yorkshire as a spotty youth, I’ve developed a real fondness for Morrisons and was therefore rather chuffed to be involved in one of their projects. Fold in the great team from Publicis and 64 jam doughnuts and you can see why I was more than happy to lead on this project”.
